HOMEWORK Students should expect homework daily, including weekends. All assignments must be done in PENCIL only. Homework will be corrected in class the following day, checked for completion, and recorded for a grade. This will help to tribute to the success of the class by keeping up with the assignments. Since math is so cyclical, work being done on time becomes very important. Makeup work will be given partial credit if submitted within a reasonable time period during the same grading period. Homework will constitute 10% of the grade.
QUIZZES / TESTS One or more quizzes will be given during the chapter; a comprehensive test will be given at the end of each chapter of study. Tests are announced at least three days in advance with a morning tutoring session offered at 7:15 am the day of the exam. Makeup testing must be scheduled as soon as possible in not the next day back. If a student misses the day directly before a test and returns the next day, he or she is responsible for taking the test the day of the return due to the fact that tests are announced ahead of time to accommodate for this. Tests and quizzes will combine to make up 80% of the grade average, noting that tests are tripled in weight within the percent.
PROJECTS / CLASS ACTIVITIES This category will make up the remaining 10% of the student’s average. The grades will be based upon a project, the journal completion, and a notebook check recorded each semester. Projects are announced and scheduled with a due date in advance; collection of journals and notebook checks are random, and the reason why notebooks should always be in the classroom with the student. This category is designed to help the grade average, not hurt it. Students should realize this and should allow it to play to their advantage.
HELP SESSIONS Scheduled help sessions are on Tuesday for Geometry AI and Wednesday for Geometry AII both after school until 3:30 pm in room 114 A. It is recommended that the student appears before 3:05 pm to acknowledge his or her intentions. Following a review day in class, on the morning of the chapter tests, there will be an additional tutoring session arranged in order to prepare further for the test. These dates will be announced along with the scheduling of the tests. Any changes to this schedule will be announced in class.
MATERIALS Students should never enter the classroom without their “Pencil, paper, book, notebook, and their brains!” Within the notebook four dividers (M-A-T-H) are needed. When the classwork and homework time is appropriate, the Geometry classes will be using a TEXAS INSTRUMENT 30 calculator.
These policies are implemented in order to help make parents aware of their child’s progress. Recorded grades for these classes are on the BE net.classroom as soon as possible for parents and students to view. If there are any questions during the year, please contact Mrs. Lawrence via phone or email.
